Swedish Massage in Incline Village: What is it?

Amidst the variety of different massage options available today, it’s easy for clients to find themselves confused or unsure of which massage is best for their current needs. Hailing from the heart of Europe, the most commonly recommended form to clients is the Swedish massage. Contrary to popular belief (and its name), the Swedish massage didn’t actually originate in Sweden. Rather, a Dutch massage practitioner by the name of Johan George Mezger most notably first introduced the practice to the world of massage therapy. Ironically, the Swedish massage is referred to as a “classic massage” in Europe because of its common preference among Europeans.

While Swedish massage is often what comes to mind first when most people think of a massage, its benefits go far beyond that of a typical massage. Swedish massage in Incline Village promotes wellness and relaxation while improving circulation, oxygen flow and immune system fortification. That being said, many individuals still want to know: what is Swedish massage?

Swedish massage promotes whole-body relaxation through a set of specific movements. These include: effleurage, or sliding movements; petrissage, or kneading movements; friction, or rubbing; vibration and percussion. These movements, accompanied by varied stretching movements to promote joint movement and relief, reduce tension throughout the muscles and release toxic buildup that can cause physical and mental stress.

While the benefits of Swedish massage (especially a Swedish massage in Incline Village at San Soma!) are extensive, there seems to be a rumor that Swedish massage is not as therapeutic as other massage techniques. On the contrary (as we mentioned earlier), Swedish massage incorporates a variety of movements that offer immense benefits to the body to help our clients reach a new state of well-being. At San Soma, I prefer to use Swedish massage as a base or foundational massage and then incorporate other specific techniques that will benefit you as an individual.

In addition to Swedish massage in Incline Village, San Soma offers a variety of massage techniques to Lake Tahoe residents and visitors. For more information on any of our massage therapy services, feel free to contact us today.
