Prescription for a Healthy Lifestyle

By Guest Blogger Colleen Carney Ruge, Nutritionist at MoxiRXIt’s no newsflash that being healthy and feeling good is directly related to the lifestyle choices we make each day—as in every day. With our packed schedules and overlapping obligations, we can often exchange good habits for convenient ones—but why can’t good habits also be convenient? See, we read too much conflicting cyber information from a variety of thrown-together websites and all of our social media “expert” friends about what to eat and how to exercise. All of this can make living a healthy lifestyle sound more complicated than it really has to be. In this post, I’ve provided five good and convenient things each of us can implement quickly and painlessly to make a huge impact on our overall health.1. Minimize Your Intake of Inflammatory Foods
Avoid gluten, soy, dairy and other processed food products that contain excess amounts of sugar and carbohydrates. Inflammation is created when the body does not recognize what we are eating and cannot break it down for digestion.2. Prepare Balanced, Nutrient-dense MealsEach meal should include the appropriate amount of protein, fiber, leafy greens and essential fatty acids. Animal proteins should be lean, hormone and antibiotic free. Healthy fats should include olive oil, avocado, nuts and seeds.3. Maintain Appropriate Hydration Levels (aka Drink Water)Every muscle, organ and bone needs water to function properly. Water flushes toxins and wastes, supports digestion and helps transport nutrients. Our bodies are 70% water, so the closer we are to maintaining this level the better we will feel.4. Exercise at least 20 Minutes Every DayOur bodies are designed to move. Daily exercise does not have to be complicated, just taking a brisk walk gets our endorphins going and our blood circulating.5. Start Your Day Off RightCover the nutrition bases in one meal. It’s fast and easy to blend breakfast into a delicious shake with protein, fiber, greens and omegas. Our ability to perform physically, mentally and professionally depends on getting the right amount of nutrients to start our day.Following these five simple parameters each and every day is an easy way to stay healthy and feel great … see, our choices can be good and convenient. Here’s to our health!-Colleen Carney Ruge,
